Looking for a hair straightener for stubbornly thick and curly hair? So was I. Since the stylists at my go-to hair salon always seemed to be able to straighten my hair to perfection, I turned to them for advice. The brand they pointed me to? Evalectric. A brand that hadn’t yet made it onto my radar, but was most certainly front and center after that.

After browsing the brand’s range of hair straighteners, I was impressed. There are some good options to choose from – everything from far-infrared, ceramic-plated models to versatile titanium-plated devices with negative ion technology.

Since my styling tool stash was in desperate need of an upgrade, I invested (they’re actually very reasonably priced) in a few different Evalectric straighteners. Here’s how each one handled my hard-to-tame mane:

Evalectric’s Classic Styler

Classic-Styler-Crazy Pink

Evalectric’s Classic Styler range features this iconic hair straightener in several different show-stopping shades. I went with the Baby Pink Classic Styler, which comes with 1.25” ceramic plates. These plates are 100% ceramic, meaning not just coated but ceramic through and through. This means even heat distribution without any damaging hot spots.

Other noteworthy features include its variable temperature settings, with 460°F being the hottest, far infrared technology, and negative ion technology.

Did it do the Job?

I’ve always favored ceramic plates for my hair as they seem to create less frizz. This one does the same, giving my hair a beautifully smooth finish. This could also be down to the infrared heatwaves and negative ions. Both are known for countering the look of static. Frizz is a big issue for me, so this was very much appreciated!

Evalectric’s Mini Classic Styler

Mini Classic Styler Blue

The Mini Classic Styler is exactly what it sounds like – a mini version of Evalectric’s Classic Styler. It’s much more compact in size, and although it also comes with ceramic plates, its maximum temperature setting is slightly lower at 410°F, and its plates are much smaller at 1/2”.

Those features lend themselves well to being convenient to pack and travel with, which is exactly what this straightener was designed for. However, I was dubious about whether it would be powerful enough to make a dent in my unruly mane…

Did it do the Job?

Let’s be real – if I were to attempt to completely straighten my super-thick hair to perfection with this straightener, it would take hours with those 1/2”-inch plates. However, that’s not really what this straightener is for. Instead, it’s a godsend when it comes to on-the-go touch-ups. It quickly fixes frizz and flyaways, keeping my crazy curls looking presentable when I’m doing lots of traveling. It now never leaves my suitcase as it’s one that I always want with me when I’m away from home and short on space.

Evalectric’s Titanium Pro

Ultra Beauty Titanium Peach

As you can guess from the name, Evalectric’s line of Titanium Pro straighteners features titanium plates. Again, there’s an assortment of colors to choose from – I went with the striking Titanium Pro Peach, although coral was also very tempting!

Again, these hair straighteners have an adjustable temperature dial, giving you full control of how much heat you expose your hair to. Just like Evalectric’s ceramic straighteners, this range also comes with negative ion and infrared heat technology.

Did it do the Job?

In true titanium-plated fashion, this hair straightener heats up very quickly. Titanium is known for giving coarse hair a sleeker finish, and I definitely notice that difference in comparison to the ceramic-plated models. While deeper damage is usually the unfortunate consequence of this, I haven’t yet noticed this model causing any problems for my hair, even when I’ve been using it regularly for a while.

Evalectric’s Ultra Turbo Styler

Ultra-Turbo-flat-iron

Back to 100% ceramic plates, Evalectric’s Ultra Turbo Styler makes a name for itself by soaring to 500°F, making it perfect for stubborn strands like mine.

In many other ways, it’s similar to the brand’s Classic Styler. While the lower temperatures offered by that model are great for fine and medium hair, thick and curly strands can benefit from having the option of styling with even more heat.

Did it do the Job?

The first time I used this hair straightener, I did what all hair professionals would advise not to do – I cranked it up to the highest heat setting. I wanted to see the difference that those extra degrees would make, and it was definitely noticeable. It straightened my hair faster and gave it a silkier finish. Yes, it puts my strands at more risk of damage, but I also never need to pass the hair straightener over each section of hair more than once, which means my hair is probably receiving less heat exposure overall.

Final Thoughts

I can now completely understand why the stylists at my salon were raving about Evalectric. Although it may not be a mainstream brand, it’s one that has more than caught the eye of professionals, and is a great solution for those trying to achieve salon-worthy straightness at home.
