Since turning 22 years old, I’ve begun to really focus on taking care of my skin. I’ve been recently wearing sunscreen non-stop and religiously cleansing my face, but I still felt that something was missing from my daily skincare routine.

I started researching and I recently tried several “gold-infused” skincare products by Orogold. I gave these products a full two-week trial run to get an idea of what the products were like and to see if I found them beneficial to my routine. Why Gold?

You may be wondering why Orogold would add gold into their skincare products. You may be asking if gold skincare is just a hype or if there are some real benefits to including gold into skin care products. Well, I recently learned that adding REAL gold into my daily skincare routine may have more benefits than I originally thought. Using gold for its healing and beneficial properties actually is a practice that originates from several centuries ago. 

• The Egyptians believed that gold could aid in curing many physical and spiritual ailments
• In Ancient China gold was considered the key to youthful skin
• Many believe Cleopatra used gold to get radiant skin
• Romans used gold to treat sores and skin lesions

Gold has been used for so long throughout history because of the results people have experienced. One of those benefits being anti-aging properties. Colloidal gold helps to repair skin damage and reveal a dewy complexion. It also may contain anti-inflammatory properties. These anti-inflammatory properties may really benefit those with hyperpigmentation, sun damaged skin, and sensitive skin. I thought this was one of the best benefits of gold infused products! As a young teen I never wore hats or sunscreen and I feel like that was really starting to become evident in the overall appearance of my skin before trying Orogold.

After two weeks of my new night time skin care routine (more details on it below), I already feel an improvement in my sun damage. Lastly, another great benefit of gold is it’s brightening effect! Gold incorporated into skin care has been shown to lighten skin and give an overall radiant look. Gold has quite the long history of being incorporated into skin care and with all these benefits, why not give it a shot? I tried three gold-infused products from Orogold: Orogold 24k Purifying Toner, Orogold 24k Eye Serum, and Orogold 24k Overnight Cream. 

Orogold 24K Purifying Toner

The Orogold 24k Purifying Toner contains several beneficial ingredients like aloe vera, cucumber extract, organic chamomile and of course GOLD. Yep, you read that right! I have always loved using aloe vera for sunburns but I recently learned that aloe vera is also highly beneficial for our skin and makes a great addition to any beauty product, that’s why I love the Orogold 24k Purifying Toner.

One of the first key ingredients in the Orogold toner is Aloe Vera.

Aloe Vera is: a plant of the succulent variety, that originated in the Arabian Peninsula but thrives in hot and tropical climates.

Aloe vera has been used for centuries for healing and softening the skin.

Common Uses for Aloe Vera

• Sunburn relief
• Healing Minor scrapes and burns
• Clears acne and may reduce scarring
• When taken orally Aloe Vera juice can alleviate constipation
• Improve overall oral health and may reduce candida, plaque, and gingivitis

Another great benefit of skincare infused with aloe vera is that it is typically better for those with sensitive skin and often leaves the skin feeling soft and refreshed instead of dried out like many astringent based toners. A study done in 2014, found that a cream mixed with traditional acne medication and aloe vera was more effective than just acne medication on its own when treating mild to moderate acne. (2) I personally feel like my skin had a great reaction to the Orogold 24K Purifying toner and I truly think that is due to the aloe vera.

Orogold 24K Purifying Toner also contains organic chamomile and after further research, I found out that organic chamomile is a skin healing powerhouse!

“It is said that chamomile may reduce: acne, lighten skin, reduce undereye circles, aid in anti-aging, relieve sunburn and so much more!”

After using the Purifying Toner for two weeks straight I felt that my skin was much more hydrated and cleansed. Using a toner (especially one with so many beneficial ingredients) is a great way to make sure we are completely removing all pollutants from our skin and getting a deeper cleanse.

Orogold 24k Anti-Aging Eye Serum

The 24k Anti-Aging Eye Serum was the product I was most excited to try! I have been on the hunt for a good eye serum for the last few years and I have always come up short. In the past many eye serum’s that I tried we’re either too drying to my under eyes or we’re not effective enough to really reduce puffiness. I was hopeful about the Orogold eye serum because of the many beneficial ingredients it contains. Some of those ingredients being “palmitoyl oligopeptide”, calendula flower extract, aloe vera, and with the recurring theme being, gold.

“Palmitoyl oligopeptide” is a peptide that has been said to have the same positive effects on our skin as a retinoid, without any of the side effects! I think I can hear my sensitive skin readers singing with joy as we speak.  Palmitoyl oligopeptide has been shown to reduce wrinkles and increase cell turnover, all without being sun sensitive like it’s counterpart- retinoid (4).

Like previously stated, Orogold 24K Anti-Aging Eye Serum also contains the extract from calendula flowers. The calendula flower not only has several health benefits but calendula is extremely beneficial for our skin! Calendula is anti-inflammatory and can protect cells from free radicals due to the flavonoid antioxidants that calendula contains! Lastly, Calendula is a great addition to the Orogold eye serum because it is naturally antimicrobial and antiviral. Meaning that this serum is not only great for wrinkles but it will also kill any lingering bacteria on your face! (5) Score!

After using this eye serum for two weeks I started to get really excited! I saw a reduction in my dark under eye circles and felt that the sensitive skin under my eyes were significantly more hydrated. I also noticed that a few minutes after I apply the under eye serum I can already  start to see a reduction in my puffiness. In my opinion, these key ingredients in the Orogold eye serum provided positive changes in my under eye area and I think I’ve found the under eye serum for me!

Orogold 24K Overnight Cream

The last gold-infused product I tried from Orogold was their overnight cream. The Orogold 24K Overnight Cream was intriguing to me because it was an overnight cream based with shea butter and sweet almond oil. Both of which are very hydrating and nourishing for the skin. After the first night of trying this overnight cream I almost felt like my face had spent the night in a spa. This was because the Orogold 24K Overnight Cream left my skin deeply hydrated and protected against the dry and colder winter night.

Like mentioned above, one of the main components of the Orogold overnight cream (besides gold of course) is shea butter. Shea butter is a hydrating butter made from shea nuts. Shea trees grow in Central and West Africa and shea butter has been used medicinally in Africa for centuries(7). Shea butter is great for several health and skin care reasons. Below are some great benefits of shea butter for skin care, here we go! 

Skin Care Benefits of Shea Butter

• Moisturizes the Skin

Shea butter is very moisturizing for the skin due to the combination of natural vitamins and fatty acids.

• Smooths Complexion

It smooths out skin and complexion by aiding in our skin’s natural collagen production. Shea butter contains several acids (oleic and linolenic to name a few) that protect and nourish the skin.

• Reduces Inflammation

In 2010 a study found that the “lupeol cinnamate” found in shea butter reduces skin inflammation and potentially help avoid mutations on our skin.

Another reason I enjoyed using the Orogold 24K Overnight Cream is because it helps keep my skin subtle and may protect skin from UV radiation. This is due to Orogold including sweet almond oil into their overnight cream. Many people may already know the health benefits of sweet almonds like, that it reduces risk of heart attack and regulates cholesterol. However you  may not know that sweet almond oil also works wonders for our skin. Like previously mentioned, almond oil keeps skin supple and may also act as a barrier between the sun and your skin. It  also contains Vitamin E and has a light texture, so when I’m applying my overnight cream to my skin it blends very nicely!

My Night Time Skin Care Routine

Since trying out the Orogold products my night time skincare routine has not only changed but improved for the better. I have felt an overall increase in hydration, brightness, and radiance in my skin. Below I explain how I love to incorporate the Orogold products into my nightly routine.

1. Usually the first thing I do when I get home is remove any makeup I had on during the day with organic coconut oil and one of my reusable cotton rounds. I apply the coconut oil gently to my eyes and massage a light amount of coconut oil all over my skin and neck.
2. Next, I wash my face with a bar of soap. I prefer to use a face wash that has pure ingredients, because I find that they help prevent my acne the most. I like to use African black soap or castile soap.
3. After my face is completely cleansed, I spritz a few sprays of the Orogold 24K Purifying Toner onto a reusable cotton round. Then I apply it all over my skin to remove any leftover dirt and to deeply cleanse my pores. My favorite part about this toner is how fresh my face feels after using it! I always find traces of makeup on my cotton round after using this toner. This is great because, I love feeling like it is removing every last bit of dirt from my pores. 
4. I then carefully apply the Orogold 24k Anti-Aging Eye Serum to my under eyes (using my index finger, because it is more gentle and will reduce the likelihood of getting wrinkles near and around your eyes). I allow this to dry completely before doing the next step. Is it just me or is the best part about this eye serum that you can visibly see all the gold flakes? The more gold the merrier, right?
5. Almost done, I then apply a generous amount of the 24k Overnight Cream onto my face. I like to warm the product up in my hand first before applying it to my face, to insure that it is fully absorbing into my skin.
6. Lastly, to really insure that the products absorb into my skin I like to roll a jade roller over my entire face, including my under eye area. Jade rollers are a really nice way to apply Orogold products because jade rollers also reduce puffiness and redness on the skin.

Overall, I am very impressed with the three gold infused products that I have tried from Orogold. The Orogold 24K Purifying Toner, the Orogold 24K Anti-Aging Eye Serum, and the Orogold 24K Overnight Cream are all great additions to my night time skin care routine and provided my skin with beautiful results, in my opinion.
